Freshwater and Trout

Start Here - Understanding Regulations

This website and our annual printed Sport Fishing Regulations Guides contain the information you need to know to fish in freshwater and saltwater in Georgia. Please consult fishing regulations carefully before you go fishing since regulations may vary on different bodies of water. Following the steps below and consulting the menu items on the right-hand side of the screen will help you have the best possible fishing trip:

  1. Make sure that you are familiar with fishing license requirements and who needs a license.
  2. Before fishing, familiarize yourself with the daily limits and seasons - freshwater and saltwater - and note any exceptions. See freshwater fish length limts and legal freshwater fishing methods sections.
  3. See applicable information if you are trout fishing or fishing on Public Fishing Areas.
  4. Are you from out of state or fishing border waters? See Agreements with Bordering States section.
