How many deer are there in Georgia?

In 1960, there were 65,000 deer in the entire state. SInce 1987, there has been over one million deer in Georgia every year. The herd peaked at over 1.3 million in 1997. The current estimate is 1.2 million and the long range goal is one million to keep the deer herd healthy and well in line with carrying capacity of the habitat (overall food supply).
