What is the difference between an Original, Transfer, Transfer/Renewal and Renewal registration?

Original: The vessel has never before been registered in Georgia.

Transfer: Change of ownership name. The existing Georgia number is transferred to the new owner's name. Registration on the boat is current and not have more than 60 days left until expiration.

Transfer/Renewal: Change of ownership name and renewal of a registration either expired or set to expire in the next 60 days.

Renewal: This is a renewal of a current or expired registration. The registration number and the name of the boat owner has not changed.

You sent me a letter stating that my Hull Identification Number (HIN) was incorrect. What is an HIN?

The HIN is a 12 or 14 character serial number that uniquely identifies your boat. All boats manufactured or imported on or after November 1, 1972 must bear a HIN. The HIN is found on a metal or plastic plate, typically on the transom of the boat. Find out how to locate the HIN on your boat here.
